Maori Language and Book Week


What a very successful week. Lots of action in the maori cultural room by classes, students and whanau. Finished up Friday with a book character week where we had Maui and Maui's brother show up to school!!!!!

SENIORS SUPPORT YEAR 3/4 IN LEARNING

SENIOR STUDENTS HELP AT NORTH LOBURN






Some of our senior students had the opportunity to spend a day at North Loburn School and teach year 3/4 children how to work in a range of maori activities including haka, rakau, poi, weaving and waiata.

NORTH CANTERBURY CULTURAL FESTIVAL

The date has been set for THURSDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER at the Rangiora Town Hall. All 3 of our Kapa Haka groups will be performing at some stage during the festival.

MAORI CULTURAL ROOM IS OPEN






The KNS maori culture room is now open. We have dedicated seniors being monitors in the break times, classes are using the room to teach maori language and culture, games are being played, art projects are being done and children are having fun.

2011 OUTLOOK

This year Kaiapoi North is offering a wide range of cultural experiences for students. We are continuing with Kapa Haka for Koru, Wheki and Seniors, all which will start after week 5 of term 1. We will also be offering the opportunity for our Y4-8 students to take part in the Akoranga program during term 2 and 3.

New to our school is the Maori Culture Room which will open in week 3 of term 1. This is a common space for all students and whanau to visit during morning tea and lunch time. The is a range of cultural opportunities in this room, including reading books, electronic books, games, rakau, poi, art and cultural support. Please take the time to come along and visit this room during term 1.
